I got to be an ARC reader for this book and I was so excited going into it. The book is definitely an urban fantasy setting (mostly taking place in SoCal which I love because I’m from there!) and delves into a lot of unknown Viking folklore. I’d never even heard of Andarta before reading, then did my research and came to learn that she’s an actual goddess which was cool.

It also delves very deep into human trafficking, like farming and labor, which was eye opening as someone who didn’t know how many different forms of trafficking there are.

Overall, the writing was great and the plot was all over the place, but not in a bad way! I would definitely recommend this book to fellow fantasy readers.

Leanne Staback and Sloane Kennedy have achieved something truly extraordinary with Andarta.

As a devoted fan of mythology and fantasy, I came to this book expecting an epic journey filled with gods, heroes, and larger-than-life stakes. What I didn’t expect was the seamless blending of these mythological elements with one of the most pressing real-world issues today: human trafficking. The result is a deeply impactful, thrilling, and thought-provoking story that redefines the fantasy genre. These two authors dared to bring together two seemingly disparate worlds: the mystical and the modern. Through the lens of mythology, they illuminate the very real horrors of human trafficking, crafting a narrative that is both imaginative and painfully relevant.

As a reader, I was struck by how effortlessly these two worlds coexist. The ancient mythology of Andarta, Eir, and the Skuldalið breathes life into a story that tackles some of the darkest corners of our reality. The gods may be fictional, but the issues are very real, and the characters’ struggles feel intensely relatable. The authors’ ability to balance these elements while maintaining the wonder and escapism of fantasy is nothing short of exceptional.

While the mythological ties drew me in, it was the grounded, human struggles that left the deepest impact. The modern-day characters, especially Emilia and Clara, feel incredibly real despite their divine lineage. Their contrasting personalities, Emilia’s boldness and Clara’s quiet strength, mirror the duality of strength and vulnerability in real-world survivors and allies.

The authors don’t shy away from the brutal realities of human trafficking, but they handle the subject with care and sensitivity. The depiction of Leandro Mammon and his syndicate is chilling, yet the focus remains on resilience, hope, and the fight for justice. This approach makes the story not just an engaging read but an important one.

The interplay of destiny and choice is another highlight we see often, but not in a way you would expect in this story. The characters’ divine ties are set against their human decisions, creating a dynamic tension that mirrors real life. This isn’t just a story about heroes fulfilling a prophecy; it’s about individuals choosing to rise above their circumstances and fight for others.

The cast is full of just incredible characters like Gabriel, whose struggles highlight the silent battles faced by survivors. Emilia and Clara’s bond, rooted in love, tension, and unwavering loyalty, grounds the story, making it relatable even amidst its larger-than-life elements.

Andarta is more than just a book, it’s a bold statement about the power of stories to entertain, educate, and inspire. By blending mythological adventure with a modern-day cause, Leanne Staback and Sloane Kennedy have created something truly unique. This is a novel that doesn’t just transport you to another world; it challenges you to think about our own.

For fans of mythology and fantasy, Andarta offers all the epic battles, divine intrigue, and rich lore you could hope for. For those passionate about social justice, it shines a light on an issue that demands attention. For readers like me, who love both, it’s a masterpiece that stays with you long after the final page.

If you’re looking for a book that combines adventure, heart, and purpose, Andarta is an unforgettable journey you won’t want to miss.

Magic, fantasy, mythology and great characters made this a fast paced read.
I enjoyed the thorough character development of the twins from youth to young adulthood. It was interesting to take a look into the mythology of ancient Vikings incorporated into a modern fantasy story.
I believe this series is going to be a great entertainment and learning series for all ages.
The subject of human trafficking is approached in a personal manner and fuels a magical war against these crimes against humanity.
I am so looking forward to the next adventures with Andarta and Eir!

  4. Peggy Howenstein Ameday

The first book of the series introduces you to the twin sisters Emilia and Clara as they grow and discover their true nature of helping others. Blending thought provoking Viking lore and adventure with the modern day social issue of human trafficking provides an interesting read.
Emilia and Clara, along with a cast of characters, created an emotional experience that informed and asked me to examine the harsh realities and personal side of human trafficking.
The authors commitment and call to action brings awareness to a serious social issue while proving an interesting and busy storyline.

  5. Alex Gardner

What an amazing story! A sensitive topic like human trafficking is a challenge to approach with tact, but Staback and Kennedy managed to pull it off in a way that is not only engaging but also entertaining for fantasy fans and voracious readers alike.

    Oh my word!
When someone told me to read this book because I would like it. I asked what it was about, and when I heard “super hero’s“, I said that’s not my kind of book, but my friend was so insistent , so I agreed to try it.
It is such a beautifully written book— the characters are very well developed , and the two female characters feel like girls you know personally ,after a short while.
The story is about Super Hero’s-many-who all work together to fight human trafficking .
The description of the people in bondage is very clear and very real.
This would be a good book for teens and young adults to read!
The ending and the leading up to the end is SPECTACULAR, and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
This feels like a best seller , and would make a GREAT movie! Hello Hollywood!!
